Dr. Marta San Luciano Palenzuela

Dr. San Luciano is a Professor of Neurology at UCSF with expertise in movement disorders, including dystonia and Parkinson’s disease. Her research focuses on neuromodulation therapies, genetic risk, and biomarker development. Dr. San Luciano oversees clinical research activities and mentors trainees in the lab. 
 

She received her medical degree from the University of Navarra in Spain and earned a master’s degree in clinical research methods from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York, followed by a neurology residency at Boston University Medical Center, where she served as chief resident. She then completed a clinical and research fellowship in movement disorders at Beth Israel Medical Center. She also holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Translational Science from UCSF. Dr. San Luciano actively sees both adult and pediatric patients with movement disorders in her clinical practice.
